Chahal and Washington Sundar were at their best India’s 1000th in Motera against West Indies.The duo picked up 7 wickets between them and restricted West Indies to 176.
Rohit Sharma later started the chase with a quick fifty ensuring that India chased the target in 28 overs.
Chahal picked up 4 wickets for 49 runs in his 9.5 overs, and Sundar returned with 3 for 30 in his 9 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled with great accuracy in the other end. They have taken three wickets together at an excellent economy. West Indies managed to score only 55 runs in the 18 innings the duo bowled.
Double wicket Overs
Siraj dismissed Shai Hope in the third over of the game to give India the first breakthrough. Sundar struck twice in 12th over Brandon King and Darren Bravo. West Indies didn’t recover as Chahal dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Captain Pollar in consecutive balls in the 20th over of the match.
Jason Holder ( 57 runs) added 78 runs for the eighth wicket, with Fabien Allen helping West Indies post 176 on the board.
India started the chase with Rohit Sharma scoring the bulk of the runs at a quick rate in a tricky Motera pitch. The Indian captain scored 60 runs in the 81 runs in the first wicket partnership with Ishan Kishan.
Joseph dismissed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the same over. Kohli managed only 8 runs in the game. Hosein dismissed Ishan Kishan for 28 and Rishabh Pant went back to Pavillion after a runout. He scored 11 runs in 9 balls with two boundaries.
An unbroken partnership between Suryakumar Yadav(34) and Debutant Deepak Hooda (26) took India over the line in 28 overs.
Earlier, India went into their 1000th game with a relatively new look without featuring Deepak Chahar or Bhuvneswar Kumar since 2019. Ishan Kishan opened the innings in the absence of Dhawan and Ruturaj.
The second ODI will be played in the same Venue in Ahmedabad on the 9th of February.
