Is there light at the end of the tunnel for Sanju Samson?

The Rajasthan Royals Captain is an exceptional player and a match-winner, especially in T20 format. Yet, it’s a surprise that Sanju Samson hasn’t had the expected success at International Level.

Sanju Samson has showcased his talent with the power-hitting and match-winning knocks many times in every IPL season. It’s no wonder Rajasthan Royals rewarded him with leadership responsibilities.Yet, Sanju Samson hasn’t played a lot of matches for India at the highest level in his career.

Samson made his T20 debut in 2015 and played only 10 games scoring 117 runs in a span of 7 years. He averages 11.7 at a strike rate around 106 with the highest score of 27.

End of T20 Career for Sanju Samson?

A Player who is still in his prime seems to be out of competition in T20 formats. He must have played according to the team strategy to up the run rate whenever he came out to bat. However, the lack of big scores against his name had definitely hurt his opportunities.

Reasons why Samson misses out

Rishabh Pant has been trusted with the role for his match-winning talent irrespective of the way he gets dismissed in a lot of matches and the noise around it. His talent to play those extraordinary innings assures him a place in the squad.

India also has KL Rahul who is consistently scoring runs and can take up the wicketkeeper role. He is also in line for leading India on a regular basis in the future.

Ishan Kishan is also pushing for a spot with his hard-hitting abilities and scored runs whenever he had an opportunity.

All three are also part of the T20 squad announced for the series against West Indies. It also indicates Sanju Samson may not be in the scheme of things for T20s as India looks to build a team for the World Cup.

Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are also part of the team across different formats of the game. This is another factor that may work against Sanju as it reduces the opportunities he can get.

Sanju Samson has another IPL season ahead of him to push for his case in the Indian squad which prepares for the T20 World Cup in Australia. However, Pant, KL Rahul, and Ishan Kishan are no less with their performance in IPL. Sanju may find it harder to make a break into the squad even if he has an extraordinary IPL in 2022.
