The BGT lives up to the expectation, with India being on top at the stumps on Day one. Australia managed only 177 on their first innings, with Jadeja leading the bowling with five wickets.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first, only to see their two openers back in Pavillion in no time. The duo Marnus – Smith rebuilt the innings. However, Jadeja managed to get back-to-back wickets of Marnus and Renshaw to put Australia in trouble.
Marnus played an excellent inning till then, misjudged the ball, and Srikar Bharath made no mistake in taking the bails off to get him out at 49.Smith managed to take Australia past 100 in the company of Peter Handscomb. Once Jadeja bowled Smith, the last batting pair of Carey and Handscomb added 50 runs quickly to take the scoreboard to 150.
Ashwin was wickets less till then, managed to pick up Carey bowled, and the lower order wrapped up quickly for 177.
Captain Rohit started positively, scoring the bulk of the runs in the fifty runs partnership with KL Rahul.India raised to 70 with the loss of only one wicket. The debutant Todd Murphy managed a return catch of KL Rahul in the penultimate over on the day to get the breakthrough for the Aussies.
India is in a great position at the stumps. Will the Aussies fight back to restrict India, or Rohit score a ton to help India score big first innings score?
